Alfred Tesseron, who owns Bordeaux château Pontet-Canet, hunted for a Napa Valley property for years. When he and his niece Melanie saw the late Robin Williams’s 640-acre Villa Sorriso high up on Mount Veeder in September, it had the right wine “magic.” The closest neighbor is musician (and vintner) Boz Scaggs. For the past two quarters sellers have had their pick of buyers due to inventory shortages and homes in high demand. Things seemed to have changed at the end of the third quarter and it looks like we might be entering a buyer's market. Home sales in San Francisco usually rise in August, but this year it’s running 16.8 percent lower than previous years. Demand for San Francisco Bay Area real estate has arguably never been more intense, as highly paid professionals flock to the region to take advantage of an excellent job market. But a look at the number of single-family home sales across the Bay Area for the first half of 2015 shows that, for the most part, units sold have been slowing for the past two years.
